How SNAP/EBT and Link Match work at Chicago farmers markets

In Illinois, SNAP benefits are paid on a Link card, also called an EBT card. At Chicago farmers markets, you can use your Link card to buy food at markets that accept it — but not every market does, and the matching programs differ from market to market. This guide explains how it works, using only what the markets’ own official pages say.

Using your Link card at a market

At a market that accepts SNAP/EBT, you use your Link card to buy approved food items. The Austin Town Hall City Market’s official site puts it simply: it is a Link Match market, and EBT/Link cards are accepted on approved items. Which items are approved, and how the card is swiped, can differ by market — ask at the market’s information table when you arrive.

What Link Match is

Link Match is a program that adds extra dollars to spend at the market when you use your Link card. The match amount is set by each market, so it is not the same everywhere. The amounts the markets themselves publish are:

  • Green City Market (Lincoln Park and West Loop): Link is triple matched, up to $25 matched with $50.
  • Garfield Park Neighborhood Market: up to $25 in Link Match per swipe.
  • NorthCenter Farmers Market: your transaction is matched dollar for dollar with Link Up Vouchers through the LINK Match Grant Program.
  • Lincoln Square Farmers Market: the market accepts LINK and LINK Match.
  • Austin Town Hall City Market: a Link Match market.
  • Edgewater Farmers Market: Match Link Vouchers are accepted.

Some markets also accept other benefits. Edgewater accepts WIC and Senior Farmers Market Coupons, the 61st Street market accepts LINK and Senior Farmers Market Coupons, and Lincoln Square accepts WIC/FMNP coupons for produce and honey only, and only with vendors who have registered with the program.

Which Chicago markets accept SNAP/EBT

Only these eight markets have had SNAP/EBT acceptance confirmed for their own market, from an official source, as of November 5, 2026:

A note on city-wide statements

The City has said that SNAP shoppers can use Link Match at Chicago farmers markets generally. That is a program-level statement, not a confirmation for any one market, so markets such as Pullman, Daley Plaza and Division Street are not listed above as SNAP-confirmed. For those markets, call to confirm before visiting. The same applies to any market whose page does not mention SNAP — do not assume it accepts Link.
